Factory Underseal?

Post by Kenyon »

Hi All - Quick question, does anyone know if 356's left the factory with underseal on the bottom of the tub and wings as standard or at all? I had a look about and can see reference to factory applied underseal (and it not being hugely effective).

Thanks

Phil

My 59 car had the factory underseal on the floors and wings when I bought it 54 years ago. It seemed fine till I started some welding in the mid 70's. The problems did not really show on the flat services on the floor but in corners or area's that just looked like rust traps. I then scrapped off all of it and it took me ages to do it really was a lot of work. The floors and wings and sills are still original factory. After the welding repairs I applied two coats of hammerite and then underseal over the underside. This has lasted really well but I have to be honest and say, my milages since my work on it, have been carried out in dry weather. I have seen what wet weather can do to a 356 and I am too old now to do all that again.
