912 rolling shell

Hi all, would anyone care to guess the approximate value of a 912 rolling shell, no engine, no front clip, the shell itself ( what remains ) is pretty rust free apart from front section of the floor. It was imported by me about 8 years ago from California to used as part of my 911 resto but we decided against chopping it up to use as it was too good. Any help on values would be appreciated. cheers, Alfie

In the absence of any other replies... I paid £26k including auction commission for an unrestored running and driving 1970 911T from New Mexico with half its trim present, all the dials and refreshed brakes, sun damaged paint and needing some rust repairs in isolated areas.

Carbs engine gearbox dials interior glass bonnets wings tank loom lights brakes have got to be £15k so I reckon that puts a £10k ceiling on the rolling shell.

Take off say up to £5k if VIN/identity/Reg is absent.

That said, if somebody has a high value car with a rust problem there aren't a lot of shells available and it could command a premium.

Hi Rob, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I had in mind about £5k so that makes sense.

Kind Regards

Alistair

Sounds eminently reasonable. I think a frequent restorer could buy it and hold until required at that price. I think if you priced closer to £10k it'd still sell eventually, just as soon as somebody has a basketcase they want to get cracking on - depends on condition too though.

Difficult one... very expensive and time consuming to source the missing parts, so probably only useful to replace a rotten tub of a complete car. Is it illegal to take the VIN number from the rotten car and put it on this - I suppose no-one would know if it was done properly?
