Imagine a California 356 Cabriolet that is 64 years old and has never been restored. Yes it is difficult I know. Imagine the only new items underneath are four new flexible hoses and a couple of small floor repairs, nothing else has been touched so suspension, and antiroll bar bushes etc. are all 64 years old. The car was re-painted its original black (no visible rust on panels in photos prior) and a new AUTO Atlanta tan interior and "off the shelf" cabriolet roof fitted with tan cover all before 2009 when it was imported to the UK, garaged, and driven sparingly since. The matching numbers original supplied engine has in the interim been stripped and rebuilt with eh favoured 1750 piston upgrade and pulls strongly with its raised 95bhp.

The original bumpers are in remarkable condition but not fitted and instead four bumperettes give it that minimalistic "Speedster" appearance. A sports steering wheel with black leather rim looks nice otherwise all fittings are correct and original.

It drives loosely on its tired suspension for sure but all that it easy to fix, engine and gearbox operate smoothly and have no issues that a full service wouldn't cure. Brakes have previously been overhauled and pull up strongly and after suspension is sorted may need balancing.

With all its inherent failings it has a charm that you only get with unrestored cars and a blank canvass for any new owner to make their impression on. It will never need restoring and can be maintained as is with the addition of some sensible improvements mainly for safety.

Priced at £125K this rare model offers scope for a new owner to make is/her marque on the car at a modest cost. We can undertake improvements and in fact have already started with a generous £10K budget allocated to do so. This includes minor repairs back to original specification to the chassis and recommissioning all the running gear. We believe a new black hood and cover would compliment the car better and seats will be rebuilt to provide the support they did when new. We are also looking at steering wheel options, wood rimmed verses original, white or black.

If you are interested in starting a journey with this car as the new owner then we can help as and where needed. It can be purchased as is or a deal negotiated with the improvements implemented we recommend. It still has all its untouched original black sound deadening material in the engine and front hood so it would be a shame to loose all that patina but if you wish to take it back to a bare shell and make it as new then we cannot disagree thsi woudl make it even better thanit is now and there won't be a better car to do it to and we can help with that as well. It is possible to do a mixture of both restoration and preservation retaining originality thus ending up with a stunning example.

No protracted messages please asking questions just please send a simple text with an email address if you want to receive any photos and or/call 07774 911959 to discuss with Mark the possibility of owning this remarkable survivor.
