Autosport International

Went up today for the trade/press day. Hmmm, maybe should have stayed at home. Virtually no Porsche presence this year – no PCGB stand/display, which is usually pretty good, and no Porsche GB display showing off their factory-backed race series. One GT4 on air-ride suspension, posed with its tail on the ground, nose in the air to make a great car look crap, a couple of modern 99-something race cars and that was it. Many of the names missing from the trade displays, large areas of empty floorspace.

Most WTF exhibit? A Tesla with a sound system allowing you to make it sound like it has a big V8 engine... Even the 'history of F1' display was a joke, with the replica BRM V16 [edit: stand corrected - the original, not re-creation...] alongside a bunch of modern F1 cars.

Not a promising return of this once great show...

Read much the same elsewhere today.
I skipped last one due to silly costs and to me irrelevant content.

however!
Got tickets for Race Retro end of Feb; that will be great, it always is, but I am Retro anyway...

Interesting comments.
I was invited to attend by one of my suppliers but could not make it fit. Sounds like I may have saved a day.

Yes, agreed very disappointing compared to when I last went about 10 years ago. Far too much emphasis on drifting / max power / tuning etc, no manufacturers (although I think I spotted Cosworth), not even Demon Tweeks or GPR so I could get a new helmet!

The original (not one of the 3 Hall & Hall recreation) 1952 BRM V16, complete with 70 years of patina on the seat & bodywork was the real highlight for me, but I did have a good day with Angus & son Max nonetheless…

The BRM was almost worth the trip on its own. Plus there was this in an otherwise very dull live action show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFS4UmCm4HA

As the comments on YouTube said, didn’t take long for it to get uploaded!
