Those design911 bushes have the slot shaped hole for the steel cross pin, mine have a true round hole, a slight interference fit to the pin.
The round hole takes some of the for/aft lever movement out.
I think Des911 sell them, or type911 do.

I have run a Rennshifter in both my 911s, not for the short shift aspect, but for the positivity it gives to the change. Basically I know that if I get in a muddle just let it go and then you just push or pull to get into 3rd or 4th.

I have Weltmeister bushes in my otherwise std link at the end of the change rod and the blue Superpro engine mount bushes. It all gives a very positive gearchange.

The Weltmeister bushes are in mine too, graphite impregnated, I think.
Came from Automotion in the USA a very long time ago.

When I swopped out the poly bushes from the drive train mounts to rubber, never noticed any difference in NVH.

i have a fully rebuilt gearbox, all new bushings and a totally rebuilt 73 style changer tower. All set up by a porsche specialist.

It is without a shadow of doubt, the worst gear change of any car i have ever owned or driven. There is no clear detent in the change so they can be a bit hard work and vague (is it in or isnt it?) and the throw to 5th from a left hand drive position is super long (i have to lean across to make it). It was even worse with the original 71/72 gear change. It makes the 60's top-loader boxes in some of my other car seem like a technological miracle of precision.

The 915 is clearly a gearbox which responds to user input being less urgent which seems to contradict the precision of the rest of the car's controls. Throttle and steering are all so immediate and precise. Huge respect to the rallying exploits of people like 'quick Vic', how they managed to keep the car going in the right direction whilst quickly swapping cogs via such a terrible selector is beyond me.

I have also toyed with the idea of a short shift set up but have never been able to find a recommendation for one which seems to makes a genuine difference. More common seem to be tales as above, of vast expense resulting in no or minimal difference and a reversion to the original set up.

Anyway, that my 2 cents worth. Am interested to keep up with how you proceed and what the results are. Good luck.

ps one of the best gear changes i have ever experienced is in my Clio V6. Rear gearbox, remote selector. So it is possible.

It works really well in a 1985 3.2 Carrera and is available on this side of the pond.

I am now on the same page as Hot66.
With my 3.2 box, rebuilt by Mike Bainbridge too and good bushes/mounts plus great car to set-up and my 915 is great for me now.
The same set-up but any short shift/non stock changer and the box you would swear was in trouble.

5th to 4th needs to be a relaxed change, give it time to 'drop' into 4th past the detent on reverse and down to the 4th slot, but all the changes are a bit like that tbh.
Road car now, wouldn't change anything anymore.
The difference of Good to Excellent is down to everything being just so.

Another +1 for the Karsten spring.
My 83 sc has 69k miles and the gearbox has never had any work. Replaced all bushes and the joint , added the spring and some careful adjustment and it works well. The spring adds a lot of confidence and precision for very minimal cost and effort.
