Sevens on lwb cars?

Post by RobFrost »

Are there seven inch fuchs that go well on a lwb car (1970)? Just for the rear. I have deep sixes already for the front, so need something to match on the back. But I like the idea of the extra traction of something wide.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

7's on my 73T Rob.

they can be very tight Rob, all depends on tyre size as much as the rim. Here there are 7" all round.

I use 7Rs on the back of my 1970 S.
(Apologies if you already know this): a 7R is a deep 6 with a wider rim, having the additional width on the "inside", so the offset of the outside face is the same as a deep 6.
Proper Porsche sports purpose part therefore, by definition, cool. For those geeky enough to notice. So geeky cool at best. OK, I admit it, just geeky.

Yes, reassuringly expensive Kirk!

Rob, back to your original question - I have 7" Torq Thrusts on my stock bodied car which are a tight fit. I believe that the offset on my wheels is the same as a 7J Fuchs (not 7R) so I don't see why you couldn't fit those?

Here's my old '73E/S which was fitted with 205/60 tyres on 7in Fuchs all round:

- it was lowered but had uprated suspension with stiffer torsion bars & rolled rear arches.

Do the 7R's look alike with deep sixes? I'm planning on keeping the deep sixes on the front. I have some photos of sevens but can't make out if the cutouts are curved on the sevens like they are on the deep sixes.

This is a set of deep sixes & 7R's (restored by Harvey Weidman) that I had a few years ago - tyres were 185/70 & 215/60 x 15 Avon CR6ZZ's.

Just my opinion, but for the price you'll have to pay for 7R's nowadays - & the difference/improvement you'll notice - you'd be better off spending the money elsewhere ...
