Who's the restorer?

I just had a look at his instagram - is this the guy who dug out and restored the kempes bus?… I read that whole vw forum thread on that years ago… the guy is some kind of wizard/sorcerer?? Absolutely amazing skills in his garage and the best forum thread ever!!

That’s the guy. Before the kempes he did his 52 which was a chassis out job, then the kempes which was buried up to its roof gutters in a Swedish forest, then the Kohlruss which is the only one known of its kind and was found in the woods in Austria, which he still has now 8)

Also there's some 4 hole horn grilles here:

Thank you Ralph! Strange that this guy only has 2 of the same side for sale, I’m torn, do I buy 1 of them and hope the other side turns up for sale, or hold out for a pair? One is better than none right?

I’ve borrowed some from another car for now, so no immediate rush as I can gather up some for that car at a later date- I might even have a go at braising some tabs into a 2 screw to see how that goes, as I’m half thinking of putting spots on that car which would need the holes in the bars anyway. Decisions decisions!

At $400 each, scan and 3d-print a mirror image, and have them painted in chrome paint. I saw Wheeler Dealers do the chrome paint for an early Volvo Amazon, it looked spot on. Get several sets done and put them on sale.

Very good point, now to find a cheap 3D printer, or a mate that wants beer tokens! Think I’ve got just the person for that! 8)

Hi Dai.
I have been following your thread on the early 911.
Myself and Robert Barrie have done some research on a car that was originally raced in the 1970’ s by a guy called John Akers . I still haven’t been able to find the car , I am friends with the original mechanic that used to work on a few cars in the late 1960’s I will ask him if he remembers your car .
On another subject, I own a precision investment casting foundry and I have reproduced the 4 hole grills .I have a set fitted to my 1965 912.
Send me a PM and we can discuss.
All the best Dave

Hi Dave, that would be great, on both counts! I think a friend needs a set of 4 screw horn grilles too, I’ll ask him! Thank you for giving me a shout!

Rhd 912’s- I’m trying to track down a swb one, they’re quite thin on the ground!
