Why is the shell so pulled about?
Was it dragged from pillar to post no matter what damage was incurred?

From what I can work out, it must have been sat on blocks or something while it got covered in brambles along with a rotten MGB. I think this was used as a spares car for another 911 back in the mists of time, as there were some later parts chucked inside it.

It looks like they slung a chain around the rear panel to haul it out of its resting place then shoved it with the front valence before realising it could be worth more than what it weighed

The roof skin looks like it was stove in for years from scrap being chucked on top of it so it was very thin and damaged. I did push the dents out but it was so thin it wouldn’t be viable to try to save it so off it came. I reckon it’ll look good as a cabrio once the 959 kit is glued on

Time to see how unsquare it is! Mark took a screen template off one of my other cars before this one went up to him, so that’s been tried in place to see what needs pulling and pushing.



The answer is that it’s out at the top, the bottom, also the left and the right, so about what we expected

Here you can see how it’s okay on the bottom drivers side, but on the passenger side it’s been pushed in quite a lot, which is what we had thought upon initial inspection.

Great to see this renovation. I'm following it avidly. Finding out its past is so much fun.
When I rebuilt BSC 3B, folk said you have your work cut out there. Too true and you have just as much there but I see you have good facilities to hand. Onto the Celette next? Be interesting to see those results. Amazing what can be done these days and what was done 'in those days'.
Odd how these early cars manage to survive and pop up unexpectantly. A long long time ago I picked up some early parts off a 911 that had been parted out in the Swansea area amongst which was a leather handbrake boot - still got it somewhere. But that would have been a 65 car. I wonder which one....

I’ve got a Celette at home but we aren’t using it for this one. The jig that’s under it is one of 5 Mark has made for the same purpose as a celette, and the mounts were made and trial fitted to my car #4209 - instead of proving the mounts, it proved that one of my front suspension mounts on 4209 wax 8mm out

Hmm, 911 parts from Swansea.. that must have been David, a good friend of mine who has sadly passed away now. I bought his collection a few years ago. A top guy.

A bit of cutting and tweaking today, along with some straightening of the inner wings which had been buckled at the top!



At least it looks a bit more like a car with these on

Finished by the end of the year at this rate!

That wasn't David Leopold was it ?

If so, I'd lost touch with him several years ago & often wondered what had happened to him.

Yes, that’s him. I was in school with his son so knew him a long time. I tried to buy his beetle off him but somehow came away with 18 cars and 2 barns of parts

Engine and box for my Lola came from him

More trial fits today after straightening the flattened passengers inner wing- something had been dumped on the shell which had bent it outwards and down. Looking a lot better now

And a bit of time for Mark to start straightening out the mangled rear end where it looks like it was dragged by a chain..!



The outer might not be salvageable but the inner is being massaged back into shape





Still a lot more tweaking to get it ship shape including a slight kick to the rear drivers leg and engine mount work, but it’s good to save some original metal in there
