The 356 display marked the 70th anniversary of the first Porsche to race in Britain at the Castle Combe National 4th October 1952

Image

Racing on British Forces Sector registration plates, import / export agent Claude Bannister celebrated afterwards at the Dorchester London, the Porsche parked outside still wearing its race numbers

The 356 was replaced by a Gullwing Mercedes that Bannister raced at Silverstone in 1956

Hugo - do you know what happened to the E Type Jaguar driver who was one minute leading a race, and then retired with a crumpled bonnet? Did he crash himself or was there a coming together with the TVR - I had to leave before anyone said..

I didn't see the incident Jeremy, but racing an e-type with the bonnet open looked a game
