68S Tangerine Rebuild starts on the Jig

Post by Madjad »

Here we go again
1968 lhd that was tangerine.
Dismantled in 2010, and then stripped by Envirostrip.
It was then partially started and then ended up coming to me 11 years later

One long shopping list later, and I have a weld together meccano Porsche.

Image

First job was to sit the new floor under and do a trial build with screws, just to see what fits before I take it completely apart.

Image

Trial build completed. Looks like a car, now to dismantle it and let the fun begin.

And the front scuttle

I took a chance on the new Dansk scuttle, and the fit is very good

Wing looked a bad fit to the door, but, it’s a second hand door, and full of lead
It just shows the “production tolerance” on these early cars!

Wing is spaced with a washer at the moment, it closes up nicely with the thin seal!

Floor pan, and all wings are genuine porsche, along with the rear scuttle and the front longitudinals and the front panel.
Other panels used are Dansk, and restoration design.
Worst panel fit wise was the tank support panel, (Dansk) but I know where to hit these to make them fit🤣

That's some job to be tackling, coming together well. ;)

Some repair panels there I didn't know were available.
Could you now buy a new shell, or at least buy the panels and assemble one on a jig?

It needed mending, just had to bite the bullet!
I’ll post more detailed pictures up of repairs to say the front scuttle air box, and rear bulkhead
