New driver?
We've found cheaper to buy newer car and in turn get cheaper insurance which tbh surprised me a bit I'm not up on how insurance works
Used to be half decent old banger and £1500 insurance you good to go. That's all gone out the window.

Our 18yo with shiny new license back in May22
£4k for a 2015 VW High Up and £2200 to insure...£20 tax ( Adrian Flux with BB monitor)
£1500, 2001 Polo £5K to insure... £160 tax
Both 75BHP
Leicestershire postcode

So I dont have one for sale but could do worse than check out some VW Up's. Loads of good ones out there at 3-4K
Black/White/High Up editions has some extra buttons to press & A/C. Ours has heated seats. Some have pan roof as well.

There have been issues with the households dad shaped unit keeping "borrowing" said Vw Up on his traders policy directly before her license was obtained.
Banned by mini me from using it now it has a driver monitor fitted
It's a hoot to drive, pennies to run day to day.

Seat Mii - Skoda Citigo - or even a Kia Picanto or Hyundai i10 should all fit within that budget.

Wife has a Citigo Monte Carlo.
fab little car, small, get 4 inside easy and frugal, 60 mpg is normal
A very relaxing drive and everything super light in action
Insurance seem a bit high to me, maybe just my postcode!

Fast enough for everyday, hills can be chore if ladened, but if you live in a busy location.
Perfect.
Very good for ferrying parents about....

Just be careful at that price point for some French cars, electrics could be starting to play up.

Big boot size wise, Kia Venga or Hyundai ix20? or even a Vauxhall Meriva? All boring but large boots and reliable, gone through the same with daughter and grandchild and all that gubbins that they apparently need to carry around with them.
