Yes everything closed and Helge from the Prototype Museum has suggested somewhere that might help.

Just trying to decide if to limp on and get stuck on the side of a motorway or lost the rest of the holiday and all our bookings

I'm about five hours away, north of Amsterdam. If you're heading this way and still need help at that point, drop me a message. There's an excellent parts place just down the road from me as well.

Thank you for that offer. We found somewhere open today at 12pm. I called the number at 8:30 thinking I would get an answering machine but got someone. I must remember to apologize for that. Hopefully they can get us on our way today.

I've booked us in for another night in Hamburg. There are a lot of autowerkstatt opening on Monday so it seems like the best place to get it sorted.

I think I've got time to visit the Prototype Museum before 12!

Back in the game. Cracked washer. Mechanic took another washer off another axle nut. It's now running better than ever. The first place we went too wasn't interested but the chap next door helped. 350k to Groningen. For a Brucie bonus the generator has come back to life. Red light off and I checked when we stopped 6.7/7.3 volts.

Feeling much more positive ImageImage

Excellent news - hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your holiday!!

Still think the title of the thread should be 'Bardsleys Eat Northern Europe' - need more car photos and less food ones ;)

The Prototyp Museum is quite special. It's a private collection with a focus on early 1950s racer. Oto Mathe's car with an early 4 Cam and studs in the tyres. Glockler's early aluminium racer which I think predates the 550. The Green car which looks like one of the coupe 718 but is another privateer racer.

It not large but I could of spend longer there but Mrs B wanted to go see the ships in town for a festival. Another place to come back too. A very cool city you can walk around.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

I got up an ran the inner canal in Groingen. Interesting mix of old and new.

Of course when I got to the car the generator had decided not to work. I will take apart at home but I think moving to a solid state regulator will be a good idea. Someone kindly send me a link to one in the US

Does anyone know an option closer to home?

Then we drove 175k to Amsterdam. It's not a car Friendly parking lot city. I dropped Mrs B and the luggage at the hotel. Then drove 15 minutes to the park and ride. Then walked 35 minutes back with the battery in my back pack.

Amsterdam is quite overwhelmingly. I'm not sure what to think of it yet. We are staying in a shed in the garden behind the hotel. I'm not sure Mrs B is impressed

Can't you buy an alternator in a dynamo case for your car @ 6Volts?
