Does any body know?

Post by kitten1 »

:hello2: Just curious as to why the 356 is a 356. How did it get its title.

As design engineers, every part you design is given a part number, usuallly under sub numbers to idientify projects / models etc etc

Porsche no different and I'm assuming with the 356 again that was the headling number for the design project and subsequent catorgories of components . With 911, you'll notice early cars the part numbers are all started with 901 , the original project number. Of course they got in that slight disagreement with the french and had to rename the cars 911 for commercial purposes, but obviously kept the 901 part numbers etc

Its not how fast you go, but how you go fast ;)

Legend has it Ferdinand's new design bureau numbered its first commission from Wanderer Typ 7 to appear more established, making 356 the 350th project
maverick
noun
1. an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
2. an unbranded calf or yearling.
Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.
