Now that I have done the engine swap on my 69T from a 2.0 to a 2.4 motor, I feel I ought to get the V5 updated.

Any advice please? How to go about it, pitfalls, likely bad outcomes?

PS and if I can ever get through to the ins co, I'll tell them too! How hard can it be? Waited on the phone for 30 mins in a queue before abandoning. Scheduling a callback on the website and still waiting... Doesn't bode well if I need to claim at any point

Should be painless (apart from the fact the DVLA is in a mess right now, so may take a while to get the new V5c back) as it won't affect the legality of the car under the 8-point rule...

When I did mine they needed the exact cc (not 3000), engine number, invoice from a garage qualified to do the swap. I can’t recall how I got around the last bit, having done it myself! But it was straight forward, as Keith says.

My proof of purchase was a copy of the eBay ad

Thanks, does it start with using the V5 to make the changes, or is there another form or online even?

I should have the supporting docs to do it I think.

Just send off the V5c, suitably amended. If they want more, they'll let you know.

I had to do this with my Elite recently (different engine capacity & engine no.) & DVLA require one of these forms of supporting evidence:

Changed the engine cases so new engine number and reduced original capacity from 2.8 litres to 2.7. Amended my V5 and sent it off to the DVLA. No additional information requested and new V5 returned a week later.

Looking on the DVLA website, you need the supporting evidence Andy listed if you increase the capacity (rather than decrease it).
I have a receipt from Richard who soldme the engine, so I'll just send that off with the changes to the V5.

I got an inspection report from a specialist garage on their headed paper confirming the new engine number, the exact cc and that it was the same 'type' of engine as the original just a bigger cc.

I often wondered if dvla retains the information recorded on the registration document prior to any changes previous owners made to them and recalls them upon the request of the current registered owner:?:
It's academic really, but if for example you wanted to know whether your vehicle had been colour changed would the previous colour be retained by them and would they reveal it to the current registered owner

Feels unlikely that they'd be that organised and cooperative to me!

By way of an update, I sent off the v5 a few weeks back and not heard anything yet

And in super pedant mode it's registered keeper, not owner!!

So one month after I sent in the V5 with the details of the changes, I have got a strange letter back from DVLA with some questions to be answered before a V5 can be issued. The questions are who was the person who sold the vehicle to me (name and address) and when? Is that a security question do we think? How accurate does the answer have to be? The person who sold the vehicle to me might not have been the previous keeper. As it was a trader (Lee Mayor), it might have been in trade, not in a person's name. I can ask him and hope he can remember. but it was 5 years ago.

I'm also wondering if DVLA are erroneously thinking I have applied for a new V5 (from a V62 form or similar) rather than just changing details.

Any thoughts or wise words - making a cockup here could be hard to undo!
