Chassis / body numbers

Post by RobFrost »

My VIN is something like 9110123173. A 1970 911T, Karmann-built coupe.

Mike I think it is, keeps reminding me the numbers on the dash and centre tunnel are not the VIN. It's eventually starting to sink in.

So I have a dash number, looks like 1203773 and a tunnel number, looks like 1203790. I thought these were the chassis number and half expected them to match. Can anybody tell me anything about these numbers?

1970 911T, Signal orange (Restoration thread)
1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

.

Your production number stamped into the lower dash confirms that the car is a Karmann-built 1970 Coupe.

These numbers were stamped before the shell became model-specific - so can't confirm whether a particular car was a T, E, S ...
