Last few bits for 911s 1971

Post by rft218 »

Hi All,

Just doing finishing touches to my 71 911S, really pleased with it... its been a very long time!

I have a few questions if anyone can help

1) Should it have a rear fuse box cover? - if so the one I have has 2 holes in it (maybe it is a later one) - how does it mount?
2) Do the wiper nuts have a cover - any idea where I get these?
3) I need some new door bins as I dont think I can realistically repair the ones I have. Any recommendations on good suppliers of these?
4) Interior mirror - I dont have one - looks like that is a porsche part only, I dont suppose anyone has a good one?
5) I have a later jack, I'll use that until I find the ritgh one but if anyone has one please let me know

Thanks All,

Roger

From what I can gather, the interior mirrors lose their silver and the plastic disintegrates if manhandled. Leaving you with the option of clipping a modern mirror over the top, or buying a replacement.

If the fuse cover is the black plastic thing I'm thinking of, on SOME cars I think there's a tab protruding from the edge of the rear wing, and a hole in the aluminium backing plate, through which two large wing nuts go. The wing nuts are available from design 911. But that may not be the same on all cars. my 1970T is missing the cover and missing the tab.

2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

1971 MY should have a fibre cover on the relay/ circuit board in the engine compartment held on by a knurled thumb screw. 1970 MY does not have a cover.

Thanks both, I dont have the tab on the top side inside the wing but have hole in plastic cover, so I guess i should have a fibre cover which is probably NLA!, going to classic Le Mans this weekend so will be on the lookout for cars to check out!

I concur with desert rat. I think 1970MY didn’t have a cover and the 1971MY cover is in fact unique to that year and not the same as later year covers.

Looks like signal orange to me. Lovely !

Regards
Mike

Re door bins, I went with Carpoint ones a few years ago and they were fine.
Kind regards
