I was out in the sun, gently driving for about 40 mins in my 1988 Carrera 3.2. The engine was up to temp but not exceptionally hot. It got to the first bar on the thermostat, and I think bar 3 or 4 is the red. But that's all it ever gets up to, tbh. I checked the right hand sill oil pipe to see if oil was flowing, and the pipe was cold. How normal is this, and how hard do you have to push it to get the thermostat to the front to open?

Or do they commonly block / thermostat fail?

Mine normally needs a proper spanking combined with some fast motorway driving for the thermostat/front cooler opens up.

Thanks, that's reassuring. It's certainly not running hot so I have no cause for concern. Maybe I should try an Italian tuneup to be sure

If it helps Rob, my 3.2 side tubes staying cool is normal too, the car needs to be driven hard to open the stat.
