Just my opinion based on 34 years with my road/hillclimb 911, 1973 with a 3.2 engine and box (so heavy alum cased engine and box), but 7" wide rims.

Change the dampers to simple Bilstien dampers. If the dampers on the car are adjustable, ensure the adjustment is set 'soft' to mid range, and the same for each corner.
Replace if required the anti roll bars to standard 2.2 or 2.7 'RS' spec.
Replace if required, the 4 torsion bars. My car has 3 litre turbo rear bars due to engine weight, but standard fronts.
Change if required all suspension bushes to rubber or soft spec poly bushes, remove any rose joints. Ensure all the suspension is in good condition (ie not bent etc)
If changing the rear spring plates as a result, fit standard 2 part items, easier to set the geo on the car.

Get the car to a porsche experienced shop for a road spec alignment, start the set-up at the front with the lower A arms set horizontal to the road; this is lower than standard but will allow the car to cope with UK roads. The car is then set so the rear rises by 1 deg from the front. The specialist can advise.

Check the condition of the tyres, replace as needed, set correct tyre pressures (part of the alignment process)

Hope this helps you get the car right for the UK roads.

I agree with all this. I’ve driven a few cars with rose joints, hard poly bushes, elephant racing blah blahs, usually a US car as they seem to love unyielding set ups, and putting them back to stock absolutely transforms how easy they are to drive quickly on our bumpy roads and skid around roundabouts.

9s and 11s clearly look badman but I’d go for 7s and 9s as a maximum on the road (this may even be ‘correct’ for an S/T?) The ride, steering feel and turn-in will all be way nicer. I reckon 205s and 225s are as big as you ever need but I don’t know how that would work on wide rims.

There you go. Another £5k gone.

Yes, I have just fallen out of love with it to be honest I don’t have tinkering time for it and I have the chance to buy back my very first 911 I had in 1998 (sentimental I know !) 993 cab.

So it’s either collecting cars or eBay for it !

For now I will be dropping the price to £80k until the 4th of June to reflect the fact I want to buy my old car back and the fact it really does need the suspension doing
