Fitting 73 RS Lightweight door cards (and pull straps)
Hi
I couldn't find anything obvious in the resto threads. Does anyone know of thread on how to fit these ? (especially the pull straps which seem to be just lengths of black vinyl with no fittings)
Many Thanks
Ian

Re: Fitting 73 RS Lightweight door cards (and pull straps)
Should have said...
...from browsing Google it looks like the leather (not vinyl) pull strap should have an eyelet at one end. Mine doesn't have this - just two lengths of leather strap. If anyone knows what diameter eyelet is needed and what kind of pin and circlip is used, that'd be much appreciated !
My kit came from Lakewell - https://www.lakewell.com/en/porsche/911 ... -911-rs-73

.
There should be lots of info/photos on Pelican.
A quick search there showed up this thread for example:

Thanks Andy - that last photo on the second page is really helpful ! Looks like the pin and circlip is going to be a DIY job.

Re: Fitting 73 RS Lightweight door cards (and pull straps)
So...I think the problem is that newer doors don't have the opening for the back end of the strap. See photos below - the hole in the door card used for the release strap doesn't coincide with any openings in my '84 door.
Has anyone on here done this kind of door backdate before ? I'm not massively keen to drill through the door.

Re: Fitting 73 RS Lightweight door cards (and pull straps)
I had one of mine off a couple of weeks ago, and there were plastic plugs inserted into holes in the door, into which screws for the pull straps went.
1970 911T, Signal orange (Restoration thread)
1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

I think I've found a solution from Carbone.pl - on order, so I'll feed back once I've tried it.
