When is a good time to sell?

Post by 911hillclimber »

I will be selling my restored classic Honda CB 175 motorcycle this year, it has to go for various reasons.

I last sold my other restoration in June 2017, and it sold in hours from being advertised on a classic car/motorcycle web site, but 2022 is a very different time.

Do people look to buy a classic when the sun shines more than it rains, or just when they fancy a classic ride, ie a random thought.

My personal thought is to advertise it in early May.

I think you put it on here the beginning of March

Personally I would advertise as soon as possible, if it is what someone wants it will go. You could also post the link to the DDK build thread you did on it within the advert? Will show the time and effort you put into it.

To a certain extent rare items will sell anytime of year but there are certainly more people in the right frame of mind during the Spring and Summer.

A good time to sell is when you DON'T need the money, then you have it in the bank on the day that you do need it.

I've never managed it myself though ...............

Time advice is much in line with my outlook; very soon!

I want to simplify my 'garage-time' so the little Honda has to go along with the BIMA too.

The 911, the Lola and the Boxster are enough, I have just turned 70, and feel more like 80, so time to 'back-off'

The money will take a bit of the Lola's engine cost away too!

Whenever you’re ready. There are more people looking in the summer but also more for sale.

Also, all bets are off since 2020. Anything might happen anytime.

Dont do ANY Social Media claptrap, DDK is the closest i get to that.
Both the Honda and the Peugeot BIMA on ebay, and the Honda on Carsandclassic sites.

We will see what happens. :)

I take it you have sold it as the listing has ended?

Yes, sold but not on ebay.
It is VERY easy for wires to get crossed when you have an item on ebay and elsewhere. Something I will never do again.

The email coms are too delayed.
I sold the bike to one before the offer on ebay was made (actually in error) and email notification was 4 hours later...

Anyway, sold on carandclassic to a biker with 29 bikes in his 'garage', and the 'sale' on ebay has been cancelled and the buyer is ok and formally informed. no money changed hands.

I am impressed just how easy it is to sort this stuff out once you crack the process.

Deposit taken, being collected soon by a pro collection service.

I really do not like selling things, always worried how the buyer will react when he sees it etc. esp when sold unseen, but I had sent the buyer 20 pictures before he made his mind up.

I worry too much?

Getting silly offers for the Peugeot BIMA, but that is a minor sale. If not sold soon, could keep it for an electric conversion, would be an interesting winter project in the garage. Electric motor on the pedal crank, batteries/controller in an old leather pouch on the rear pannier.
Better idea is to engineer a simple clutch on the direct drive design, but can't yet find one to use.

That is good news - one down with one to go.

For the time and effort you put into it, it was always going to sell. I think projects such as that will always find a buyer, no matter what time of year. The quick sale is a testimony to the time and effort you put into it to be honest.

Well done!
