993 values

Post by Disco »

I've almost got the approval from Mrs Disco/ the budget holder to dip my toe into a modern(ish) porsche ownership. there are some stipulations that come with budget sign off which include either a convertible or a targa. Personally I'm not a fan of the convertible to be honest, so I'm limited to a targa. I absolutely love the 964 Targa, but am slightly worried about the dreaded rust and Sam wont sell me his :) - so the next best thing for me is a 993. - also totally fell in love Bootsy's one with gold wheels

I've had a look at various sites and prices seem to be completely crazy and massively wide ranging. Clearly the Carrera S Manual commands a premium, but other than that spec wise they're all a much of a muchness, no?

does anyone have or know of a decent well maintained 993, ideally a targa ( although might be able to get away with a coupe with a sunroof!) that isnt crazily priced or even better a 964 targa, that they're willing to sell?

Admin - I was going to put this on the Wanted thread, but thought it more of a discussion post - happy to move, if you see fit.

cheers
joe

But on the way home on Monday I popped in to see a friend and remembered I still don’t have the right car at all.

I appreciate its personal taste, but I think the 993 cab is one of the best looking 911 cabs produced . I loved mine and had some epic trips in it that wouldnt have been as memorable in a coupe or glass sunroof. Only reason I sold it was I couldnt get the C4 steering to feel like a rwd & I dont get on with RHD aircooled seating position. Id have a lhd 993 C2 cab tomorrow 8)

Malham Friday for some low-level running (though still high enough for a fenlander) then Horton Saturday to march up the three peaks with a bunch of old school friends.

I did half think about seeing if you were around, but it was one of those ‘relaxing’ weekends where everything was already on a tight schedule.

The Italian cars were close to home tho.

I might move up. The publican in Horton is selling up and if he can still make a living being as grumpy as he is I reckon I’d be a millionaire in a week with my winning charm.

If you don’t want to make me an offer I can’t refuse on the 964 Joseph, I reckon an early pre-vario 993 C2 cab is a great shout.

The 993 Targa really only has a big sunroof, it just doesn’t have the same open feeling as you get without roof rails.

The pre-varioram cars tend to be a smidge cheaper and feel nicer to me. They’re 14bhp short but have shorter gearing (though the very early vario cars have the early box I think) and they have a nice kick when they come on cam after 4krpm which makes them feel a bit more racey.

There’s not much in it though, so with limited numbers ever for sale just get the best one you can find without worrying too much about spec.

My 2c....

I had a Targa Varioram '96 car. Loved it BUT if I was lucky enough to be buying again I wouldnt go Targa. I loved the glass roof even in cold rainy days and especially when it was warm and sunny, but... They do rattle, no matter how much tinkering and fettling that was applied it rattled.

BTW mine was also LHD, I hear the pedal off set in RHD cars takes a bit of getting used to, so drive before you buy, and dont rule out LHD.

The problem with air cooled convertibles is they look like big Victorian prams with the roof down (and I've had a few) and Targa's lose all the nice rear lines of the 911.

If you can get a decent price sunroof C2 coupe that's always the way to go IMHO.

Then get a cheap boxster to thrash with the roof down.

IMHO, an air cooled 911 is more fun to drive than a boxster …. The boxster will be quicker though

I have the answer. Convince your other half that a sunroof is essentially a Targa. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-911- ... 5197349988

Sadly that one's an auto.

There we go - I knew I'd recently seen a Targa. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911- ... 4404867307

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.
