Fantastic progress Matteo, love the project! 8)

Since you are soon receiving this gorgeous set of 86.7mm p&cs, may ask you the following question:

Can you confirm the 94.5mm spigot size for those cylinders?
I am stuck with a 4/5R 911/57 block that has 94.5mm spigots and I do not like the idea of further opening them.

Thanks a lot,
Jan

More photos of the 86.7s - I need to ask Sam about the spigots when I deliver the set to him on Wednesday.

Also, the gearbox oil pump gears, spray bar and Cerakoted cover have been fitted now so we’re just waiting for a pair of 5th gear gears to be found (gear ratios to be the same as Darren’s Mongrel: custom gear set AZ , GZ, LT, PQ, TM) and then Sam can finish the gearbox - something will be finished!!

Thanks alot, much appreciated!
I forgot to mention that the 94,5mm measurement is referring to the statement on the FVD Homepage you posted (actually the only statement I could find on the mighty interwebs).

Cheers
Jan

More progress: shell is primed in epoxy primer and on the Celette (but not fully bolted down yet):

Great progress, Looks almost finished from the front.
Are you going to do any shell reinforcement? I ended up doing pretty much any I could find plus an engine mount one that Kirk found for me.

There is quite a good dome on those pistons. I quess that is why 2 spark plugs are needed?

Yes, the type 911/70 2.5 MFI twin-plug engine had a high compression ratio due to the use of 906 cams (10:3.1) but the dome volume of the Mahle 86.7mm diameter pistons I bought turns out to be 25.96cc, which gives only 9.3:1 with 1mm deck height (and we’re not doing the US-adopted zero deck mod due to risk of the piston dome hitting the valves).

So we now have to get a custom set of P&Cs made by Mahle with a dome volume of at least 27cc in order to achieve the correct CR and the target 270bhp, so I have a spare set of NOS 2.5l long stroke P&Cs available in case anyone is thinking of building a similar engine albeit with a milder cam profile to suit a lower CR…

Thanks Rich.

Yes, the full shebang of shell reinforcements - tunnel, longitudinal engine, rear suspension trailing arm, strut brace and anything else which was a known mod in period - jacking point reinforcement is one I need to get confirmation of. Just not the suspension turret gussets which was an 2.8 RSR mod for the coil overs apparently.

Great catching up with progress Matt and just love the effort that's going into the project 8)

This is most certainly going to be one the great DDK builds, awesome work :thumbleft:

Thanks Darren! I am certainly trying extremely hard with this project to raise the bar again, but I think your 3.0 RS is right up there with the very best! ImageImage
