Hella number (plate) illumination lamps - for passenger door and RR quarter roundels only for night stints at La Sarthe…

Got to figure out where to wire them into as it definitely wasn’t a factory mod - maybe the fog light switch?

You're probably already aware it's unlawful to show white light to the rear so you have that to work around.

Yes, well the rear quarter one may have to be disconnected but it will be facing forwards/ to the side rather than to the rear so hopefully we’ll be okay. It’s all in the details!

I can just imagine the moment when you commit to drilling holes in the fresh body to fit them… :)

Going all in though, respect :)

With 20/20 foresight we'd drill all the holes before painting I guess.

Yes indeed Rob.

From June (in brief):
1. Media blast
2. Metalwork incl. panel replacement, shell repairs & ‘72 SR chassis strengthening mods
3. Epoxy primer
4. 1st assembly & new holes drilled (battery cut-off, etc) & strip
5. Paint
6. Final assembly & shakedown etc

Latest acquisition for GeLo, thanks to Russell Edmonds:

Ex-John Fitzpatrick / Kremer 1972 European GT Championship winning car or Toni Fischhaber’s ‘72 European Hillclimb Championship winning car (he owned both but can’t remember which one it came off)

Crank now balanced with lightweight flywheel and aluminium pressure plate, all crankcase mods completed and aiming for bottom end to be done early July:

Also, thanks to Matt Blast at Eurometrix in the USA (no.1 Porsche throttle body guru), I’ve managed to secure a set of these:

So whilst we haven’t made any further progress on the shell, it’s fair to say the engine is coming along pretty well at the moment.

Yes, well none of this stuff certainly ain’t cheap, but a Mittelmotor Marelli twin-plug dizzy is €2,500 including tax and shipping and Russell’s original one with a ton of history was £5k. Angus and my thinking is that one will always be worth £5k (or more), the other will be worth less than €2.5k as soon as it’s been bought.

Same for the NOS HBs and all the other original parts I’ve bought and continuing to look for. As well as wanting to build a accurate recreation of GeLo 44, I also want to narrow the gap between build cost and end value as much as possible.

Is Sam going to build the engine?
Looks like Greatworth Classics engine shop to me.
Cannot imagine the effort and cost to gather all those special parts for this engine, superb.
