So the car has been moved into Angus’ media blasting room (just to get it out of the way over Christmas - it needs to be fully stripped next) but we have confirmed that the original paint colour was Tangerine by sanding at least two badly-done paint jobs off the Kunstharzlack plate to reveal those wonderful three numbers - 018…

Interesting that my T was painted at Karmann or elsewhere, my S was painted at the factory, but both used Glasurit paint:

(I asked Dr.K why the Kunstharzlack plate appears to have been removed and refixed and he confirmed that this was done when the car was repainted in 2005, rather than paint over it. Why the bodyshop couldn’t have just masked it up I don’t know!)

It's a shame that a more gentle (eg hot air gun) approach wasn't taken in an attempt to preserve the original paint plate ...

Yes, well I wasn’t aware they were going to do it or there to oversee them unfortunately. We may have to get a new one and try and stamp it in identical style.

Hi Rob
No, GeLo had Fuchs 9” on the rear so I need to find some of those! Early ‘72-dated small-hole rims would be very nice but I doubt I’ll ever find any of those for sale, good condition or not!

I’m not on Facebook so could you possibly send me the details re the Fuchs for sale on there please?

These are too late for my car unfortunately.

If I can’t find ‘72-dated Fuchs, I am prepared to consider new (forged) Fuchs rims in the correct finish (imported by JZM Porsche), as these are apparently even lighter than those made in period and won’t have any safety issues due to age etc. They’re a lot cheaper too at c.£480 per wheel!

I also used to get sexed up over date codes although these days I see it as a minor detail and would now place far more importance on having the correct type, finish and naturally integrity of the wheel.

I purchased new 9" Fuchs directly from Porsche which I plan to have refinished correctly by Biaggio along with the 8's I already have.

Absolutely agree Darren!

Period-correct yes, horrifically expensive correctly dated parts no! ( by way of example, Biagio has a set of ‘73-dated 7&9’s which he wants £7k + VAT for. I asked him if he had a set of ‘72’s and he said he did but had no idea what price they would be, but would surely have to be £10-£15k + VAT…).

However, apart from a 3.2 or GT3 oil pump, everything else going on my car would have been fitted in late ‘71 - early ‘72.
