Oil return tubes (Pushrods)

Post by Peter Roberts »

Just completing the refresh on my 3.2 Carrera Supersport ready for sale. Car been stored for several years but fired up after tapping the injectors and now runs like a dream. However there is a slight oil weep from 2 of the oil return tubes from the head to the sump. On older engines you can buy collapsible tubes that do not require an engine strip down but but cannot see these advertised for the 3.2 engine.
Have i any options other than a engine stripdown which is the last thing i want to do

Spot-on.
I have my 3.2 in pieces and the tubes are the same in the critical areas as the collapsible tubes that came off my 2.4.
Could have quite a flood of oil when changing them...

If you have a slight weep/seep from the tubes it is possible to rotate them to try to re-seat them. Grip the tube gently and rotate say 15-20 degrees and then twist back. Definitely worth a go, it can’t make it worse if you are considering replacing them

Thanks for the advice. i will try the twisting first and if that fails will have to change. I am very relieved as at first i could only find collapsible units for the old 346 engine and was not relishing what would turn out to be a very expensive rebuild. I have emailed Design 911 and Porsche as they also supply them apparently

Got my tubes from Design 911 and were fitted yesterday. Car now lovely and oil tight. My garage found the job " interesting" and not too difficult except for access on the near side. I bought a new cross over pipe and full gasket set just in case the exhaust had to be dropped as i was aware the flex part on the cross over pipe can be damaged on removal. Fortunately this was not needed so will include all the parts in the sale when i advertise the car. Hopefully will not have too much trouble selling it as it is a Super Sport.
