I got it running really well with the audioengine plugged into the mains - really good sound. I was able to cut out a load of unnecessary wires in the process as well which tidied things up a lot under the dash.

Then I realised that I needed a 5v supply in micro-USB format to power the audioengine from the car.

I ordered one from Amazon and promptly set about taking it apart to reduce the cable length from about 3 metres down to 5cm

Then I made a bracket to hold the audioengine and the 5v adapter

This is it in place under the passenger seat - barely noticeable

It gives a cracking sound and I'm really liking it - sitting in the garage wi' some banging choons.

Then on Tuesday morning I thought I'd drive the car to work and enjoy my sounds along the way.

Got in the car and went to start it up and ...... nothing. Not a sausage.

I'm guessing some of those wires were needed after all.

That's my saturday taken care of then....

Lozzles. I hate car electrics. They should be so simple but I always manage to end up doing that sort of thing. I’m sure you’ll get it sorted.

I like the idea of a hidden receiver like that.

What do you use to amplify it?

I picked up an Alpine MRV340 amp for not a lot. It sits under the drivers seat. Then I butchered it. Then I bought another one. (https://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewt ... start=1635) - sounds nice and way more power than I need.

As we are living through zombie apocalypse I thought I’d tackle the front headlamp. I fitted the ultra bright LED sealed units from RPM Teknic (I think) a few years ago. When Fitting them I tarted up the headlamp bowl.

One of them still looks good but the other one went rusty within a month or two and has always let the side down

SO I whipped it out and stripped it down, taking exact measurements of the screw lengths so I wouldn’t lose the adjustment

Well it looks like quite a bit of time has passed since the last update so we are due a bit of a catch-up

The main 2 reasons for lack of progress are that I moved house in 2020, and I also bought a daily driver car (Alpine A110) and then more recently swapped that for a cayman GT4. Both cars have been excellent but the upshot is that I’ve not been driving the hot rod. Which is not good. I have a plan though…..

The bigger factor in not working on the old car is the house moving. Those of you keeping up with my Uber-shed thread will know that along with the new house came a number of outbuildings, and much of my time over the last few years has been taken up with converting a barn and tannery into workshops and garage.

I’ve reached the stage now where I’m nearly there with the garage - well at least at the point where I can start to use it. I will carry on working on it though as time permits.

So after an age of wiring, flooring, roofing, adding a lift, building cabinets, drawers and adding shadow- foam I finally thought I could do a little project on the car.

On the few times I’ve driven it over the last few years I’ve noticed that the front suspension clunked a bit at low speeds. Once on the move it seemed pretty good so I thought I’d take a few things off and have a look at it

So I started with this.

I can’t tell you how fantastic it is to work with a proper lift - complete game changer.

So I started looking at one or two bits in there - looking a bit grotty
