Yep Nige, it’s moved on a bit since last time.

OK once I got it home it was time to fit the new dashboard. I bought a black 964 dashboard at the swap meet last spring and must admit I wasn’t sure it would fit.

I’d read that you need to have the windscreen out in order to replace the dash - hence my drive home without screens. However once I started to read up on it some more I found that for a late 80’s you should be OK with it in.

However, getting the old one out was a bit of a pig even with the screen out. I ended up breaking most of it into bits

I forgot to take a pic once the new one was in but it looks good.

Next front and rear screens were fitted

It surprised me how much the screens going in changed everything.

Of course I whipped the wheels off straight away to take them down to Biagio.....

Types on and it’s starting to move forward

Had an ‘interesting’ Saturday fitting the front look air arch liners - at some points I thought I would have been better off with sheets of all and some rubber. Got it all fitted in the end though

Then it was decal time. I’ve umm’d and ah’d about stripes or no stripes, and eventually decided I’d have a change and try some racing numbers instead

Dropped it off at the decal place

And picked it up later

Then at the week-end I set about fitting the badges and letters.

I made a template from the letter positions on the old engine lid
And transferred that to the new carbon fibre one

Et voila

I missed out on an orange bar bonnet badge recently and was thinking I’d look out for another one. However I decided to have another look at the cheap retro one that had been on the front of the car for the last 100K miles.

On the back it looks like this - not a great finish ( and this is what the front used to look like)

Image

However when I started to sand the front I got down to the copper coating which I thought looked pretty cool

I tried polishing it a bit as well
Image

But in the end I wasn’t so keen on that so dulled it off a bit with some 800 grit wet n dry

Again I used the masking tape template approach

Forgot to mention I ordered some mechanical carbon bonnet and engine lid struts as well - fitted those - they are great

Image

And fitted

Image

I ordered one for the rear from rennline - liked it so much I ordered one for the front. However that one was sticking so I complained and they sent out another one. In the meantime I fixed the first one so I’ll fit 2 to the front.

Nearly forgot - I also fitted a sum visor (which takes a bit of getting used to as I kept trying to put the visor up
