I had my bearings and chains arrive last week exactly as their 3rd estimate (not a promise) date.
Had to keep asking them in 2 week periods, but got them.
They were simply not available to them, but everyone else had them!

Not sure how they would react to a demand to cancel, but after such a long time in your case, they should re-emburse 100%

So I lost a clip on the ball joints on the carburettor rods on 914. I tried to find a clip but didn't know the size. I asked a local place, that develops vee cars, if they had a spare one and they never use them. If the ball joint is loose you need to replace that?

I learnt that you can pull the ball joints apart with a little force, and it takes a great deal more force to do so if you put the tiny clip on. I recommend adding the clip as it's inexpensive and easy to fit. My 3.2 Carrera has the tiny clip, and even though the balljoint under the car near the transmission crank is very badly worn, it has somehow stayed together. I have a new ball socket on order but I'm certain it would have come open and let me down by now, without the clip on.

I'm pretty sure the M5 guess was right (now in stock) but I got an M6 for my 911T and was able to tighten it slightly with pliers and it fitted perfectly.

Paid extra $$ for the proper Porsche shape, no metal collar and a crush sleeve fitment.

He's putting in a signal orange layer for me and signal orange 5 speed 901 pattern on the top. Happy Christmas to me.

A sad day for the 911T as this is going to render it undriveable for the foreseeable future But water's coming in and I need to determine the health of the windscreen surround and to stem any deterioration which may be occurring.

Knowing how one thing can lead to another, she could have had her last drive before a full respray.

A bit of scraping reveals more original paint.



And miraculously those little bowls in the bottom corners are free of any significant rust.



It continues to be a car of happy surprises, although this is a bitter-sweet one having removed the windscreen and put the car out of action unnecessarily in order to find out.

Starting to think about repairing the edge of the offside centre tunnel at the very base where it meets the floor, near the back of the offside front seat bracket. I assume there is stuff nearby that needs stripping out? E.g. starter cable, fuel line?

It looks like I'm lucky in needing to repair the offside rather than the near.

I think I would cut out the rust and see what is adjacent to the hole.
The fuel line is steel, so as long as it is empty all is good.
You are lucky with those windscreen lower corners rob, I hope the rears are as good!

The harness and starter cable should be in a separate duct at the top of the tunnel. The fuel lines should be in a similar duct on the left.

I wouldn’t want to weld down there anyway as you’ve also got the front rear brake pipe and gearshift gaiters in that area.

If you have a little fire inside (as you will) it might toast the loom where it comes out of it’s little tunnel and goes through the rear bulkhead.

The fuel pipes are also in free space between the bulkhead and the duct.

Cracked open a lovely pair of period correct(ish) seats today. They're almost too good to reupholster.

Plus a couple of nice bonuses on top...

Whats the overall plan then for those seats?

I'm still mulling it over. Also, I may be no good at upholstery, in which case plans may change. But I have a couple of cows, some basketweave vinyl and a sewing machine. I'm torn between keeping it original on one hand and adding some personal touches on the other. Maybe the answer is to keep it very close to original, with very subtle unique touches. I also like the look of the gulf orange houndstooth fabric Garry has. Another factor is that I still have the 1980s aftermarket Recaros which are half the weight and twice as comfortable. They could also be covered and I could run it with two seat options.

Started tidying up this old vw jack. Early911sregistry says it's the correct item for the car.
