rhd racer wrote:Graham - in this month’s Porsche Post the Modified Register report has a 3.2 with a modified exhaust and 964 cams achieving 261bhp, which is a good starting reference. Read it today and thought if you!

And I notice a nice photo of a 3.2 911 engined Lola in the report on the Prescott Hill climb event n September’s issue

September's has not arrived yet, last-to-know as ever!

From all these details and a 'link' to an engine builder who also hillclimbs, a realistic spec sheet is coming together.
Wayne, I don't have the nerve to take this engine to another red line from stock, the last blow up was really expensive and nearly wrote the block off.

The con rod bolts @M8 look tiny compared to the M10's you normally see.
I think the 3.2's only had these skinny bolts?

Yes the 3.2 runs the smaller bolts. The 3 litre crank can handle running at 7500 with ARP bolts as mine did for 6 seasons with 993 valve springs. My new engine is another 3 litre crank with Carillo rods that should be good for 8000 revs, but I don’t intend to run it that high! A set of rods is about £1,800 from memory.

Has the Sept issue of Porsche Post been sent out?

Those rods sound expensive!
Just how far can a stock engine such as this be stretched to more rpm?

Seems i have the Permission to build the screamer from The Boss and keep my 'project' fund machine, my freshly restored Honda CB175.

Time to build a shopping list

Thinking Wossner pistons and rods, the rods come with ARP bolts and are steel Need to check if they are forged first. £2K gone

Cams: Maybe early 911 2.4 E or S profile. Have had a 2.4 with E cams which was a real hillclimb engine.

Springs on the valves? Help needed.

Heads, might have them machined for twin spark, but will initially run single plg, just blank off the second plug taping with plugs. Bit of future proofing.

Ignition, keep it analogue or Clewitt, need to talk to a friend who has one such system on his 2.4 on Carbs

Keeping the PMO carbs

In a few very broad brush stokes that is about it.

Comments most welcome.

Graham.

Engine spec coming together, costs spiralling...

Wossner pistons
Carrillo rods and bolts
DC60 ish cams, springs and rockers
Scared to think ignition yet, but drill heads for twin spark at MB Eng
WEVO internal gate shift via MB Eng

About 300bhp, 7500rpm easy so about 535 bhp/ton.
This will be the final step in this car and for my 30 years of hill climbing.

7 months to go until I'm back here, just about do it.

That will be a great winter project. Based on mine, the PMO's really do the job. Look forward to lots and lots of engine build pics, particularly the twin plug machining.

Thanks, the PMO carb really are nice with a real induction noise, not that I can hear much when in the car!

Started to ad the costs.
Cripes, up to £5700 so far.
And I'm not good at saying No, so another 2K to come.

Might be just too much to justify.
