Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Thought I’d start a thread for the resto of my early 69t.
I’m having a go myself for stripping the car to save on costs.
Thought it may be beneficial to someone thinking about the same.
The nice looking chap is my dad!
Here is where I am. Can’t wait to get it to a body shop and sprayed original light ivory.

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Thanks guys appreciate the comments.
I can’t believe how good the panels actually are..
Someone previously has repaired with lead in places and are good repairs.
The roof and sills next for stripping….
Doors - stripped, passenger door needs minor work.
Front bumper - stripped
Rear bumpers - stripped
Front wings removed and stripped, minor repairs required
Replacement Aluminium rear engine lid
Replacement Aluminium rear registration panel
Panels needed and purchased.
Front partition panel
Front passenger floor panel. Small repair panel.
Parcel Shelf. Speaker holes have been cut.
Kidney bowls, perforated
Thanks Lee

RHD 69T non-sunroof A sister car to Bib's
Light Ivory - wow
Is it a manual?
There's a restoration section if you want to move this?
Is there something special about the chassis number 00008?

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Hello,
I have never found enough info on the car unfortunately.
It was sold new in London but never registered and shipped to South Africa.
Was the 1st RHD 69t sportomatic manufactured that year (I think) but is now manual.
1 of 6 first batch production cars shipped to Uk for MY 69.
So not special from what I know. 00009 was the Earl’s Court car.
Really wish I could find more info but tried for years.
1st owner: M Black 148 the water gardens, Edgware rd. sw2.
The car came back to Uk in 2000.
I would think one of the earliest 69t cars in existence- Oct 68?
Appreciate you asking

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
My father was an old school panel beater.
He told me it’s got some kind of polyester layer of primer.
It seems to have preserved the body. A bugger to remove but seems straight underneath (so far)

The Water Gardens is in W2 (not SW2)leedurrant73 wrote: 1st owner: M Black 148 the water gardens, Edgware rd. sw2.
The car came back to Uk in 2000.
It's always been a very expensive/affluent residential location (I worked ~ 1/2 mile from there in the mid/late '80's).
I know you sent a letter to that address when you first got the car but no.148 has been sold several times in the intervening years so it's not surprising that you didn't get a response.

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Thanks Andy,
My mistake, was a typo. I’ve written the address so many times over the years.
I’ve always wonder who M Black actually was back in the day. It’s interesting he purchased a brand new sporto and it ended up in SA?
I know the Arfor’s Earl’s Court car some how spent it’s life in Africa. Seems quite a few ended up there.
Thanks Lee

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
I think I’ve mentioned before Lee that Motorsport was big in SA in the late 60’s. I can’t help thinking that maybe your car (and one or two other 911’s) appeared to be associated with that scene then. Maybe a drivers or a mechanics road car or an amateurs competition car. The sporto was considered a capable machine then (read the recent thread mentioning Vic Elford’s sporto competition car). There must be a very compelling reason the car was bought in London and then shipped to SA.immediately. Do you know if M. Black was the owner who shipped? Did he emigrate?

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Hello Mike,
I think the same as you but haven’t been able to find the original owner or relatives?
I got back to the 90s with owners in SA but unfortunately the most important owner past away last year and had Parkinson’s. i really wouldn’t know where to start when it comes to tracking down families for the car. It’s a real shame. Whoever it was he got in there quick right at the start of production and ordered a sporto. Rob Walkers garage from what I was told.
It’s very interesting and why I have held on to the car. Thought of selling it a few times but couldn’t part with it. Was hoping to find more info.
Thanks Mike.
