Update from me. Forms for my 914 EV sent on 3rd Oct. Left the engine number blank (Tesla motor).

Received V5 today with N suffix reg.

I applied and got the taxation class ‘HISTORIC’. I got the V5C even without an engine number - V5C says ‘UNKNOWN’. The fuel type still says ‘PETROL’.

Now I will send the form back to have the fuel type changed to ‘electricity’ but the tax class stays as ‘historic’. An accompanying bill from a reputable EV company is the suggested documentation to submit. This is important since it’s the fuel type that is checked by the automated systems for things like ULEZ and by traffic wardens.

Like any other ‘hot rod’, the 8 point score still applies. From this perspective an EV conversion is no different to a ‘normal’. engine swap.

Did you not cut the bodywork at all to fit the batteries?

Nope. Batteries occupy the engine bay and the fuel tank area.

Chassis is strengthened using the usual longitudinal and rear arm kits but none of it has been cut away.
