‘72 Oil flap 1/4 panel - photos needed!

Post by Gary71 »

I’ve come to panel up the car for paint and realised that there is a bit on the 1/4 that the oil flap catch hinges from that I may have accidentally thrown away...

The only photo I have is this distant crop from another picture. I guess it’s some form of U bracket that bolts through the 1/4.

I could do with some reference pictures so I can make something so anyone out there with a ‘72 I’d really appreciate some photos and even better measurements of the bracket.

Thanks!

...and should that bump stop bracket be there? I don’t remember a bump stop!

That’s great chaps, many thanks.

One bump stop, one without...

Wonder if that was a later addition to help the fit? Mines a (reasonably) early ‘72 car (228)

Prototype made :)

Next question: painted or not?

My whole flap/latch/hinge/spring is definitely green under the silver. Historical overspray seems a stretch as it’s all over it

Made and fitted, bump stop bracket cut off.

I’m going with painted, seems to be sensible considering how visible it is through the gaps!

The gaps have always been huge, guess they can be made smaller, but at least they are even and it’s flush.

Yes from the factory the gap is huge. Something I couldn’t live with so I closed it up a bit.

Did you build up the lid or fill the 1/4 panel?

Good question, it was three years ago now I honestly don’t remember which way I did it.

Logic would suggest mod the lid as it can always be returned to stock in the future for whatever reason .... modding the appeture would be more permanent?
