We mixed the colour to be as close the the carbon as possible, we wanted the carbon details only to be visible when up close, from a distance the car all looks painted.

You could also paint the car in the same way with a different colour, and whether that blend on the side of the roof would work would be a matter of opinion. I'm not so sure.

We are currently building a 964 with a carbon roof and the car is to be painted in olive green metallic, another dark colour, I may try the same paint fade on the roof but more than likely it will be hard line masked between the colour and the carbon.

Probably time for an update on this one since it's nearly finished!

We left it as a painted shell, so now the best part of any restoration, putting the shiny parts on.

Before we get to that though, after the car was painted I decided it needed a bit more carbon, so ditched the original Ducktail and bought a carbon one.

I applied the same method to this as I had to the bonnet and stencilled the Porsche lettering.

In Primer, leaving a bare carbon area.



Stencil applied



Paint the colour base coat. and peel off the stencil





Lacquer the whole lid.

Suspension, cabling etc fitted first.





Standard enough sport Bilstein setup, although I used turbo ARBs, and turbo tie rod kits.





I then changed my mind (again) and fitted KWv3 Adjustable front struts and rear shocks.





Wheels finished to RSR spec with period Pirelli rubber.

Next up installing Jonny's (Classic Retrofit) electric A/C system.

The kit comes with a full new blower unit which is a straight replacement for the original although a little larger as it contains the evaporator.



The drier fits at the rear of the arch.





Condensor under the headlight bucket, complete with fan.



Obviously this wouldn't be possible on a regular longhood as the battery box would be in the way, but since this is a backdate, it squeezes in there.



The compressor and ECU fit between the spare wheel, fuel tank and battery, no space is wasted!



A little black paint on the condenser, to stop it showing through the horn grill or wheel arch.



Obviously there is electrical work to be done and a switch located on the dash.

I also chose to fit one of Jonny's uprated alternators too. The Ecu is a clever bit of kit and can moderate the A/C compressor if it detects that the current from the battery/alternator is too low, for example in traffic with wipers and headlights on etc. It will avoid the battery draining. But with the uprated alternator this situation shouldn't arise meaning full demist is available even in traffic.

Some of you will recognise these mirrors from a previous project.



And that's about it for now, currently waiting 6 months for a throttle body conversion kit to arrive from the States.
