New Hampshire 1968 Porsche 911

I'm honored to join DDK. My name is Andy, I'm a Yank, and I'm fortunate to have a 1968 911.

My 911 is a bit of a hot rod. When I first found her 16 years ago, she had been "1980-ized" by prior owners with SC flares, black flag mirrors, and all the cool bits that brought her "up to date".

Oh yes, painted Guards Red as well... that ubiquitous 1980's-era favorite Porsche color.

She remains quite modified. But the theme and intent of these modifications has changed dramatically. Essentially, I've tried to imagine and create what a 1968 privateer racer's personal car would look like in 1973, five years on. It would have been pressed into duty on the street, not the track, but would have accrued racing and Sports-Purposes parts along the way. And so that is where she is today; a 2.0L twin-plug car with 10.1:1 compression, 901 gearbox with ZF limited slip and B,H,M,S,X gears (904 mainshaft), Recaro or Scheel seats, improved braking (but still on 3" mounts), rollbar, and so forth.

It is an improbable, impossible and thoroughly enjoyable car. Nothing quite sounds like a 2.0L at the RPM limit, does it? Not the fastest (especially compared to modern cars), but the sheer driving enjoyment is unbeatable in my book.

Thank you again for this opportunity to introduce myself. I look forward to participating when I can.

Best regards,
Andy in New Hampshire

Nice car, where abouts in New Hampshire are you based? I have friends living in Northwood, so know the area (a little bit).

Thank you! We are located in New London/Sunapee.

The car’s colour is “Cotswold Blue”, a hue found on the earliest Jaguar E-Type/XKE. It’s simply a colour I like very much.

There are other 1960’s bits that veered away from the typical “Made in W. Germany” theme, such as the Les Leston Walsall steering wheel, Raydyot driver’s mirror, Britax harnesses and Enot’s 3.5” center-fill fuel cap. All in good fun. :)

Best,
Andy
