If you want them done to a high std then the only place to go is Biageo. Travel the extra distance and pay a little extra.

I’m sure Biageo are great but they aren’t the only people that can restore Fuch wheels.Cookie wrote:If you want them done to a high std then the only place to go is Biageo. Travel the extra distance and pay a little extra.
It’s important that you don’t send them to a normal wheel guy as they will want to strip and paint or powder coat them. The wheel needs to be stripped in a caustic solution to remove the old anodising. Once stripped the whole wheel gets polished. Once polished they get put in a sulphuric acid bath and an electrical charge gets passed through them to apply the anodised coating.
Alan at Canford Classics did mine nearly 12 years ago and apart from the efforts of a ham fisted Frenchman at a tyre shop in Le Mans, they are still as good as the day they were done.

I have just painted my wheels, I have had them anodised professionally but have painted them myself. I used a clear etch primer and a satin black paint. The masking is the biggest job, I used the thin plastic masking tape for detail work on the petals and just the ordinary masking tape for the rim. I had to put little marks on the rim with a rule to make sure the rim line did not run off. I am pleased with the result much better than before.
Kind Regards

Re: FUCH Wheel restoration
Thanks John. Fuch wheel restoration is actually a pain job. We still do them for our restorations but no longer as a separate service.

Re: FUCH Wheel restoration
I've just taken mine to a guy in Birmingham (an anodising company) who was recommended through Impact Bumpers. His work looks good from photos I've seen, he talks knowledgeably about the Fuchs process and I suspect he may be a trade source for some of the more well known refurbishers. Once I've got the wheels back I'll provide more information, opinion on the quality of the work and photos.

Another thumbs up for Lee Mayor although I had set done with Nick at Early 911 some time ago and they were good too but not sure he's still doing them.

Re: FUCH Wheel restoration
If you are near Kent look up CSP Powdercoating in Borough Green, Curtis is the main man, he refurbed my wheels - perfect and value for money!

Don't think they'd tackle Anodised and painting finish of a fuches wheel.Surlysurdi wrote:If you are near Kent look up CSP Powdercoating in Borough Green, Curtis is the main man, he refurbed my wheels - perfect and value for money!

Re: FUCH Wheel restoration
Mike Champion who's on this forum did a great job on a couple of wheels he did for me. They properly look the part and showed up the other set that were done by one of the other Porsche specialists. He managed to do them so that they don't look brand new and too shiny.

Re: FUCH Wheel restoration
Thanks for the recommendation, Mike, appreciated.
A few photos of recent MCE restored wheels below. Full details of the process I work to is at: http://www.mceporsche.com/fuchs-wheel-restoration
A mixture of 5.5J x 15", 6J x 15" (deep & flat six) and later 7J & 8J x 16" styles in the pics. Also have a set of early 4.5J x 15" ('67S) and 2 sets of 6J x 15" (flat six) that I'm painting this week. Will try and remember to post some pics when done.
Regards,
Mike.
