Looking for 1970-1973 base to build a 1970's race car

Post by Grom105 »

Hi All,

This is my first time posting on here.

I am on the hunt for a base for a 1970-1973 race car project which I am looking to in the HSCC 70's series.

Due to the regs I believe the pre-impact bumper cars can do much better than the SC's as they can run much much lighter.

I am open to look at anything. Ideally I would look for an Ex-rally car or something that has already been raced/ used for track days.

Many thanks,

We have a LHD RST parked here that would make an ideal race car and it has HTP’s and V5
Owner is happy to sell it

This is a very well known and successful hillclimb car that may well fit the bill. Looks like the auction is 12th December.

I know this car very well. It's my good friend Bob Mortimer's (Mr Bun the Baker!) I've known it since before Bob had it, the previous owner had a concours-winning 2.7 RS, and this was one of his fun cars.
It has a long and varied history, it's not for the purist, but a very well set up solid 911 competition car.

Boom, we have a winner.
Steve Monk cage, by the look of it? Did he set it up? If so it probably goes round corners quite acceptably.

Yes, shell rebuilt by Steve Monk including the cage. Not sure who set up the suspension, but I can confirm that it corners exceptionally well, ask anyone who has seen Bob take Karousell and Ashes at Gurston Down. It would probably need a reset for circuits though.

Looks like a very good starting point, I'd say. Proper.

I do seem to remember a corner it didn't quite go round somewhere - but that's true of all competition cars I guess!

Robert - do you have any pics of when mine failed to go round a corner? Actually might have been a straight, if I remember the anecdote correctly?
Obviously a very wet straight...
