As way of a little update, I decided not to go and view the car.

The auction house dont really care what the description is at all, and their view is its just a race car which is fine if that is what they were describing as that. but they are claiming it to be an RS Shell which it certainly isnt.

Very kindly a couple of people gave me the background and the car is not for me at the advertised price.

I probably will bid but really just for the value of the engine.

But what is the value of a 'genuine' RS engine compared to a 'replica' when the original chassis 0394 has been destroyed, so no longer exists?

Well it went for £90k (inc fees) let’s just hope the buyer knew what they were actually buying !

I had the opportunity to run the orange rally car at Loton Hillclimb for a day, 7 runs up the hill.
I have never got over the sharp precision of every feature on that car, it really was stunning, the engine and box were real eye openers.
Roger also took me up the hill at 11/10ths and yet another eye opener....
Two foot braking coming into Fallow to the 90 left was quite something.

The car was supremely stable and Roger just flew up the hill, the Hill Climb Champion he is.

Hi all,

I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone for their advice.

We secured the car and it arrived home last week. We know we paid at the higher end for it but it's very close to what we want and it means we should be able to get out racing for the beginning of next season.

There are a few bits on the car we do not need, mainly the engine. If anyone is interested please let me know.

Also, if anyone is intersted you can follow the change from hill climber to road racer on instagram @sparrowandson

Thanks again and I'm sure I'll be posting soon enough with some questions on the build.
