Re: 911 2.2 MFI engine complete
Some more details - by way of introduction - I have a 1972 911 2.4E that's going through a complete restoration process - its been to the blasters and is currently with fabricators on a jig having all the metalwork required completed - then will go off to be painted at some point in early 2021. Will then attempt to carefully reassemble with as many original parts as can be reused / refurbished.
Some more details on the engine I have for sale
Early Porsche 911 2.2 mechanical fuel injection engine
Complete with intake, exhaust, MFI unit and clutch assembly
Imported from the states from classics rescue for my 911 restoration project, but went with alternate engine that's already fully refurbished
The engine turns over but has not been started
The engine came from a stolen recovered car in the USA and had the serial number removed some years ago according to Geoff of Classics Rescue
The engine is as it was supplied and can be inspected
Any questions or further details required please ask and I'll do my best to answer - mobile 07990 264922
Collection preferred but can arrange shipment at buyers additional cost if required - wanting £6000 for it but open to offers as long as they are sensible / near the asking price
Thanks for looking

Re: 911 2.2 MFI engine complete
Since the engine number is no clue - what are the internals? E? S? Unknown?
Edit - the MFI pump type 0408 126 010 is from a 1970 E, so that's one data point.

Yellow engine shroud would suggest a T engine. E pump tho. 2.4 throttle bodies. 2.2 stacks. 2.0 oil line. Looks like it’s a collection of parts. Without a build sheets Or a proper inspection it’s difficult to know what you are buying.
Could be a good core engine for somebody though as it looks fairly complete.

Good spot on the 2.4 TBs, John.johnM wrote:Yellow engine shroud would suggest a T engine. E pump tho. 2.4 throttle bodies. 2.2 stacks. 2.0 oil line. Looks like it’s a collection of parts. Without a build sheets Or a proper inspection it’s difficult to know what you are buying.

If I were a betting man, I'd say 2.2E mostly, worn out TBs replaced at some point in its life with 2.4 versions. But like you say, without a build sheet or taking it apart, who knows...
Re: 911 2.2 MFI engine complete
It has a later 2.7 fan housing 901 106 101 5R
I dont have crank case part numbers - one search on 901 101 102 2R and 101 3R suggest a valid pair either 70E, another 70T
The oil pressure return line (hard line passes under bell housing, short hose to oil tank) seems to be the one year only 1973 2.4 version part number 911 107 722 00 .... so perhaps this was changed to hook this engine up to a 1973 car...??

I would love to know how to ID 2.4 TB's if you wouldn't mind sharing John?johnM wrote:2.4 throttle bodies.

Hi Deanodeano wrote:I would love to know how to ID 2.4 TB's if you wouldn't mind sharing John?johnM wrote:2.4 throttle bodies.
I’m not the font of knowledge on throttle bodies, but this is my understanding.
DDK Please feel free to correct any inaccuracies.
2.0 and 2.2 throttle bodies look for the most part the same but I believe there are some subtle difference between the two. Below is a 2.2 throttle body. Note the throttle stop design.
Below is a throttle body of a 2.7RS. These are the same as 2.4 throttle bodies. Note throttle stop design.
Obviously the upper port size is the same 38mm for all T,E,S and RS spec cars. The lower port size is dependent on model. From memory 30mm for T. 32mm for E and 36mm for S and RS. All use a 38mm butterfly. Also worth noting is the crank angles for throttles differ between the 2.2/2.4 bodies and if swapping between the two you also need to change the rear bellcrank and also the cross link between the left and right stacks.
Like I say that’s my understanding but Prepared to be corrected. Hope that’s helpful.
Kind regards.

That fan housing casting number was used from '69-'77 although it was modified (increased depth) to allow for the bigger alternator fitted from '75-on ...deano wrote:It has a later 2.7 fan housing 901 106 101 5R

Re: 911 2.2 MFI engine complete
Those numbers are the casting numbers - they aren't specific to T E or S models - you would need the engine type &/or serial numbers to identify/determine which model the crankcase was fitted to ...deano wrote: I dont have crank case part numbers - one search on 901 101 102 2R and 101 3R suggest a valid pair either 70E, another 70T

I have half Re: 911 2.2 MFI engine complete
I looked at the motor for Julian. Most of you have worked out its a hienz 57!!. I think it has been rebuilt when I looked at it. It has a 2.4 oil cooler. It wouldn't surprise me if it has a counter balance crank in it and that it has been but to a higher spec. Its probably worth the asking price in parts.
