Unsolicited PMs from new accounts offering parts

Just a heads up.

We've had a coupe of cases of a PM received offering similar parts to those that have been advertised on the forum or in response to a wanted advert

Beware - these are scams

If you get offered parts via PM from anyone who hasn't posted on the forum let me know - one or two may have slipped through the net

Usually the accounts offering these are a few days old. Click on the users profile, look at when they joined and search their previous posts

If it seems fishy - PM me

Another one reported and banned - offering parts in response to wanted ads

Be vigilant

If it looks like a duck it usually is a duck!

Let me know if you suspect anything

And another and 2 reports of dodgy offers

Be vigilant

Anyone getting in touch in response to a wanted part (especially those who have never posted on the forum / zero post counts)

PM me and let me investigate before you do anything!

Been a couple of others recently and last night / this morning we had many automated new user accounts opened - all been deleted, extra security put in place etc. but please be careful.

Usually the thing to watch out for is a reply to a wanted advert.

Some like this...

Here’s his email kevon.allen@hotmail.com
Immediately trying to get you off the forum and communicating via email. They will usually just copy and paste what you're after from your advert. If quizzed they will know nothing about the part or have any images. The accounts usually haven't made any posts at all (click on their username to look at their post count)

Report them to me and I can take appropriate action.

I had an email just now saying I had a PM from someone re my Wanted ad....

Message never appeared in my PM inbox....assume it was removed for this reason?

As an update to this ....

New users will no longer be able to send PMs until they reach a specified number of posts.

Another hurdle for the tedious fraudsters
