Any recommended products to protect wheels from brake dust ?

.

I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to car cleaning products having only ever polished a car once or twice in my life (!!) so wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a product that is effective in protecting wheels from brake dust.

Preferably something that's long-lasting & doesn't require re-applying frequently.

The (recently refurbished) wheels on my Fulvia HF are magnesium & I'd like to minimise any corrosive effects caused by brake dust - I'd probably only treat the insides of the wheels.

I've had a couple of products suggested - Gyeon Q2 Rim & Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour - but I'd prefer to hear from those with first hand experience.

Gibbs. Hard to get but I use it on all wheels. Wash weekly and re-apply.

Thanks Mike.

I was rather hoping for something that only needs applying every 6 months ...

I've been using Devils Blood which is used to remove iron content from car paint surface ans works wonders on wheels, esp those that look so far gone that they'll need painted. Great product in my opinion. As for protection - Ive no idea.

Hi Andy,

I have used Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour with good results - but I think it works best when applied to new / refurbished wheels - the better the surface finish the better the protection.
I applied Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour to the painted alloys on my 2017 Skoda when it was new. I recently removed all four wheels to detail them ( first time in 3+ years ) and was pleasantly surprised how little dust and dirt had accumulated on the inner faces over the 30,000 miles or so.

Have also applied this to my Cayman wheels but as they are on PCCBs they require less protection from brake dust, so the protection is less evident.

If I were to do a set of wheels again anytime soon I might consider putting the full Crystal Serum Light on for better protection again, however it's more costly at around £50 for 30ml ( although that would be enough for at least 3 sets of wheels ).

Thanks Andrew - that sounds more like the long-lasting effect I was looking for.

Hi Andy ;
For the last 8 years I've been using FinnishKare Big White paste.
It's a German product that simply doesn't allow brake dust to take a
hold. I also use it on paintwork.
You apply a thin layer, let it dry ( approx. 30 minutes ) and buff off the white powder.
Repeat the procedure monthly for 3 months and apply again 18 months
later, then annually. I'm still on my first tin !
However, keep away from tyres and other rubber, leather or leatherette roofs
and most importantly don't try to cut corners by applying twice as much on the
first application. I believe that it's used on boat hull's to resist barnacle's.
Best automotive product I've ever purchased.

I've always used Rim wax by Smart wax, after application so much easier to clean the wheels and lasts a while.

You do need to remove your wheels and give them a thorough clean before you wax.
Handy if you apply some ferous fallout to remove the oxidation to start with. Valet pro normally a good product.

The other solution is 280mm Carbon ceramic brake rotors. I have Carbon ceramic brakes on the Audi q7 and other than the eye watering price to replace them the plus side is that for wheelwhores is that they dont produce a messy dust.
