74 911 Targa; Whats it worth

Post by markm »

I have a friend who has got an old guards red 74 Targa on a M plate. Its not matching numbers as it has got a 3.0 SC lump in the back, 5 speed manual and the clock is showing 92k on it.

Not 100% sure on the state of the bodywork but the paint has faded due to the sun and is showing signs of rust. It has had a new large roof fitted. Interior is as you would expect for a car of this age. It is ½ leather

The car has been neglected for a few years but I'm told is a runner.

I know its a, need to see it to really know what its worth, but he is juts after a ball park figure as he is thinking of getting rid. He's supposed to be sending me some photos which I will add once I get

Depends how rusty it is. It could be worth nothing (i.e. cost more to restore than it's worth)

Probably £20kish even for parts, especially if the engine runs and the car basically works. Whether it is worth restoring is another question again. Depending on the exact model, probably not as an investment but as something to make into what you want, maybe.

I just picked up a 76 non-sunroof coupe in the US and it owes me £20k. It is also sun-faded (patina!) and has some local rust. It is fully roadworthy and came fitted with new Koni's, brakes, fuel system (incl tank, lines, etc) and a BITZ EFI Megasquirt, MSD ignition.

I probably have another £5k to get it the way I want but it is the exact 911 I want so worth it to me, only you know if you actually want the car and won't end up wishing you just bought what you actually want.
