Insurance for lots of cars

Post by rft218 »

Hi all,

I have a policy with Peter James that covers my daily, 2 x 911s, 73 beetle (heavily modified), and a UVA fugitive kit car, the pricing feels a little random sometimes and they always quote a lot to insure my 993TT so that is on a separate policy.

Does anyone else have a similar policy from other companies that covers this mix of cars that are reasonable to deal with so I can just double check pricing?

Cheers

Roger

Same here (2 modern, 3 classics, including the 911 which is not standard), after dabbling with Adrian Flux and Footman James, when it came to renewal the prices shot up and so I put them all on Admiral and they were very reasonable. I have insured with Admiral for 15 years and made several claims - always been easy to deal with, no horror stories.

I have 4 'Classics' insured through RH Classics & when I recently added my Fulvia HF they said they could add my 'daily' to the policy at a competitive rate ...

I rate Classicline but still have seperate policies with agreed values with sensible prices on all the cars.
The only the they are not compeitive on is the RS clone which I've left with Heritage.

How do these multi car policies work with NCD?
I keep on being told that you as an individual, can only claim NCD on one car, so you apply it to the most expensive, and the others in your 'fleet' all have to earn NCB before it can be applied.

What happens with multi car policies?

That's the reason I've always kept my 'daily' on a separate policy - that's the car I have my NCB on ...

great thanks all - that gives me a choice to try one!

On NCB, Peter James dont seem to use NCB, I have that on my 993TT policy which is with Marsh (Actually brokering for Aviva).

I feel the ncb is a scam.
It is not law as far as I can find out, but each company say you can only apply YOUR ncb to one car, other cars you own can earn ncb by the year as long as it is in your name.
So, ncb on the daily with insurance company A, Boxster at 4 years now because it is with company B, 911 is agreed value so no ncb applies, with company C, race car is agreed value so is with company C too.
So, if I went to, say, Admiral, I recon I would pay more!

Has anyone made a claim and been asked if their ncb has been used elsewhere?

Graham, I think you are very confused with NCB. It goes with the policy holder/car combination generally. You start with one car, build up ncb. Then you get another car and start to build it up. So if you have 5 cars you have 5 lots of NCB as it builds up.

Agreed value doesn't mean no NCB. Just that that insurer for that policy doesn't give or take ncb. My agreed value policy has NCB.

I agree that it's a bit of a mess as the rules by which one company gives NCB can be completely different to the rules a new insurer uses to accept it.

But I don't think it's as mischievous as you are making it out to be! Graham

I don't have any NCB on any of my 'Classics' - I never have.

I'm not aware of anyone else having a NCB on their classic.

The only NCB I have is on my 'daily' which has always been on a separate policy (with a different insurer).
