Thanks everyone - yes, well worth my persistence !

The next search was for a fifth (spare) alloy wheel ...

As I pointed out earlier in this thread, the 5.5in magnesium Campagnolo wheels which I'd managed to source in Italy were the only alloy wheels homologated for the 1.3HF models hence are very rare & difficult to find since, being magnesium & 50+ yrs old, relatively few have survived.

I'd had great service from the Italian-based alloy wheel specialist who supplied the original set of 4 restored Campagnolos, so I contacted him again to see if he could find me a 5th wheel in similar condition.

It took a couple of months but eventually he found & restored another wheel for me.

Unfortunately by this time, the UK had left the EU &, combined with the travel restrictions enforced by Covid, there were huge backlogs for shipments from Italy - & a lot of mis-information & confusion over import charges & VAT - particularly when using any of the international couriers like Fedex, DHL, UPS, etc.

Since I had recently had good experiences in using local postal services when receiving parcels from the EU, I opted to use Poste Italiane & provided the seller with the appropriate tariff commodity code for parts for 'historic'/collector's cars (after scouring HMRC's website for the relevant info) - along with my suggested description for the part.

Although the parcel took longer than expected (~4 weeks), once it arrived in the UK it was delivered to me via Parcelforce within 24 hrs - without any import charges/VAT.

Just need to see if I can get similar success when buying another XAS tyre in Spain ...

Yep, made lots of wheels for many cars back in the day, same company as the bike parts I believe.

Andy,

Are you saying parts for classic/historic vehicles (more than 30 years old) are exempt from import charges and VAT?

I'v just had a quick look at the HMRC website. Is it this?
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/classifying ... f-vehicles

Code 8708? Where does the seller write this number (if it's the right code)? On the shipping form? Where exactly?

Does it make any difference whether the seller is private or a business?

Wow, just caught up here and what a wonderful story :) .....reminded me of when I found the owner of my T from the mid-80's. Just brilliant.

It's a shame the DVLA V888 form is no longer!......one good thing about the digital internet age Andy is that there'll be far more recorded information to research in years to come :)

It's very heartening when a former owner is happy to provide information, retained documents and in your case Andy, old registration plates. Lovely car.

I've been 'out & about' in the Fulvia quite a bit during the recent fine weather - just spotted this picture on Facebook taken at last Sunday's 'Classic Italian Coffee & Cars' event at the Classic Motor Hub:

Stunning car. Little to beat a well sorted Fulvia down a B road on a sunny day.

Makes me miss my old Fanalone A LOT....
