912 - Sympathetic refresh

Post by hot66 »

Have you driven with that set up yet Chris ? Be interesting to see how much the engine moves about and wether the pipes hit inside of the holes ?

*Insert comment about hole size proportion to connector flange inlet and outlet girth ratio*

Started it up with the panel in place and clearance is good, the new engine mount bushings definitely help. Currently prepping panel ready for paint.....again :)

Will that panel take a lot of heat?

I just know from my VW days the an exhaust that close to rear apron creates a hell of a lot of heat (and paint bubbling / flaking)

So bringing this back up to date.

It moves !!

With that, sent it off to get alignment and have the brakes re-bled and checked through....

Meanwhile, spent the time finishing off the new rear panel...

Image

Back from alignment and a quick polish. The resprayed door had only been wet sanded, so needed abit of polish and glaze rubbing in...

I have never really "properly" cleaned the car in the whole time I have owned it...Its only ever been sprayed and wiped down, but I can see that it will benefit from a deeper clean, the areas I have focused on really do sparkle after a quick polish...makes the car more red (though I will be sympathetic, as I do like the sun-kissed orange tone) !

So that'll do for now. Time to put some miles back on it.

There are still a few areas to finish off...wheel centre caps, window winder, proper polish, maybe fit an electronic fuel pump, (Roof rack project  ) but for the most part I'm really happy with it. Engine feels strong and pulls well...Kept it under 4000 for now, but have about 100 miles on it in the last two days with no leaks, smoke or strange smells. Exhaust "upgrade" is still in one-piece without any heat issues to the rear panel.

It was 38oC here today and it didn't miss a beat driving to and from work. Got afew thumbs up along the way, felt good to be behind the wheel again, those new tyres and setup make it feel really light and nimble...
