987 Cayman S

Post by DustyM »

So I thought i'd chance my arm with the tough crowd here and start a thread on one of those new fangled water cooled machines!

Last summer we took our family holidays in the UK and as you do I'd lined up a few cars to look at. I've had my eye on a Cayman for a while, I think they are currently hard to beat for value as an offering from Porsche with the most smiles per buck.

I had a short list of three cars in various locations across the UK but in the end went to see none of them since during our stay another car popped up on eBay. Only an hour away and a great spec it was hard to resist.

Great colour.
Bore Scope done
Sports seats
Chrono pack
Sat nav
BOSE
PASM
Extended leather
Carbon pack
And the icing on the cake PCCB

So I bought it.

After using it for the remainder of the year, including a trip up to Donegal

And a trackday

I decided I liked it enough to hang onto it for a few years but as with most of my cars wanted it make it a bit more individual.

So into the workshop it came for strip down.

Good to read of another DDK member biting the Cayman apple.

First job was a colour change, Cobalt blue is nice but not what I had in mind, also the car had had a front end repaint at some point and the colour wasn't quiet right.

So I we stripped down the car, panels off, glass out etc.

And carried out any repairs to minor dings.

The bonnet is aluminium and as it had already been painted a couple of times I stripped that back to metal

Ready to receive the new colour.

Riviera Blue was the chosen shade

And then flatted down.

And polished

Panels hung to let the paint harden for a while before refit.

Great choice of base car. I agree they are great value and a few small tweaks makes them into superb fast road cars. Love the colour, less sure about the PCCBs but its a nice package.

So then it all has to go back together

Image

Image

Original stickers replaced.

Image

The Cayman R spoiler is still available from Porsche but is huge money so I sourced a used R rear spoiler to replace the original retractable version.

I also fitted a set of the Cayman sport all red rear lights.

Image

Along with other black accents on the mirrors, front spoiler, foglight surround and headlight surround continued with the look I was after.

My follow-up suggestion was going to be all-red sport rear lights.

Jolly well done.
