My old motors thread - probably done before, but who cares!

Post by jonno1 »

Ok, I will start it off.

After a rusty 1.3 S3 bought off ebay (that went off to Hong Kong), a 1600HF racer I bought and didnt use apart from on a couple of trackdays (and is now a Fanalone replica reg OWE250K) I bought this....one of 22....a RHD Lancia Fulvia 1.6HF Fanalone. Once driven and reviewed by Martin Buckley. I owned it for 2 years...and only sold it because I was all lined up to buy an Aurelia B20...until it was crashed into on the morning of the inspection....and then I bought a 356A from PR Services instead....and then a 911....and the whole Porsche thing got a bit silly! I probably should have kept it.

Great idea, now you and mike have set a high bar and i am going to lower it....

I passed my test in this aged 17 - This is not the actual car as i dont have photos but it is identical to my Dad's T reg RS 2000. It was fantastic - not as good as the RS1800 that i coveted but all my mates were very envious and i was very lucky.

Image

It eventually became mine but at this stage was my Dad's/. I repaid his generosity by stuffing it into a wall.

As a punishment, he made me drive this for a year.

A vandenPlas Allegro in mustard. It had been my late grandparents' car

I went from Hero to Zero in no time flat.

Super walnut picnic trays in the back though - every cloud has a silver lining

Great idea. I have a feeling mine already may be on the rubbish side having seen the quality of the first few posts! My first car was a mk2 escort estate (Mexico style!) as I was a very keen racing cyclist at the time and needed to ferry my bike around to events. Then I found VWs, my first going through at least 6 incarnations during my ownership before being used in a bank job. I kid you not, how would you make a getaway in this without being noticed?!!
Image

Via a beach buggy (a Swb Rat) which is too fugly too show,Image I moved onto this, the engineering being done by my pal’s dad inc a safari windscreen. It ran a stumpy stinger and was a big hit with the Hampshire constabulary who became on first name terms with me!

Image

Then having done Golf GTIs for years I built this bug and painted it myself (bought from Porker914 that is no longer of this parish). I sold it to find the 914 build

Image

I built that car on my best mate David Hilton’s (911e and Gt3) drive as I lived at his place for a few years. At the time, Ge has just built this and together we did the type 4 conversion (see Bootsy’s post - all world)

Image

And then the much missed 914. Terrible pic, but taken in OPC Notts on the launch night of the 987 Boxster.

I look forward to the reminiscing as already feeling a bit hemmed in!

Sort pics have gone out of the intended order but you get the idea.

Sorry about more VWs Keith bit I don’t think they will be the last!

Yes, it went like a champ. We left several tyre marks around our favourite hairpin to prove it, it was properly fun.

Good: almost everything, including 100% bulletproofness
Bad: almost nothing
Verdict: way better than serious helmsmiths say they are. Wish I'd kept it.

I had a pastel yellow Martin Walker speedster similar to this one late 90’s.
Was one of 2 built for the Paris to Liege rally.
