The first one was a long-term DDK car - owned by Vicki - & advertised on the forum before it went to Collecting Cars ...

Porsche for sale of the day..........

Post by Gary71 »

Weird front spoiler…
No sill trims…
Bit of a hotrod vibe.
No pictures of the underside.
Minimal pictures of elsewhere.

Otherwise looks decent enough, but difficult to tell with so few images. Photos are free and easy these days so this kind of ad always worries me.

Looks like mine with the 6500 red line? What’s the S supposed to be?

:) To be fair it wangs straight through it to about 7 as the rev limit rotor arm doesn’t do anything :)

The engine number does not give a good feeling.

Very irregular, the 3, the 0, the 6, they seem different:

it also looks mechanized.

I have a topic on this matter in another forum, but it is in Spanish language:

I had the same thought about the engine number. They usually get the digits in a good straight line from the factory. Nevertheless, if an engine is given a new case, it would be acceptable to transfer the original number onto the case. It would be reassuring if the cars5history addressed it.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

No, the factory never stamped the original number onto a new case. Back then, the factory would either sell a blank case on its own or if they were going to re-case the engine themselves they would stamp a special number indicating it's been replaced.

Rather unusually there are 2 lovely Sepia 1972 911S models currently for sale - the first is our old friend the ex-Italian car that several of us came close to buying many years ago - & Robert Barrie did buy - which is with Silverstone Auctions (again) at the NEC:

Only had a cursory look over it this morning but it did look rather nice ...

The other car is one that Chris Turner used to look after & is a stunning-looking Sportomatic - one that if I had the money (& was in the market for an early 911) I'd be happy to own - even though it's RHD :
