Whilst I do the bushes is it worth fitting one of these - any good? Slightly disturbed by the epoxy fitting! Glad the yanks also stand by their products!

Hi,

I fitted this about 3 years ago and it does exactly what it says on the tin. The installation with epoxy resin is no issue as long as you make sure the lever and socket ate absolutely free of grease, oil etc.
But be aware that it amplifies the chance of mis-shifts, especially if the linkage is not adjusted absolutely accurately. I have also fitted a small spring at the coupling to the transmission that automatically pulls the shift mechanism into the 3 -4 plane, which made shifting a lot more precise and controllable.
Shifting is now quite controlled, but still requires more concentration than a "normal" car. Probably part of the fun driving the car, but if I ever open the transmission for a rebuild I will definitely install a gate shift kit.

Regards,
Christian

^^^ Got one of those, fitted after a Factory conversion, another type and then this one.
Been on the car for 4 years, very nice.

I think with any short shifter, the linkage must be very carefully aligned to the gear position detent balls.
Having the shifter bias to 3/4th plane is very modern car, and easier to take a gear than the original.

I also think 915 gearboxes are certainly not all equal even after a mega re-build by the best.

Indeed, the full shifter is very nice, best of the short shifters I've tried over the years.

I have to agree with Graham.
Over the years I have fitted after market short shifts (waste of money)
Factory Porsche short shifts(much better). Wevo shifters (very good) and
J West Rennshifts (by far the best of the bunch)
all IMHO.
Cheers.

Andy
Now Porsche less and sad.
3.2 Carrera Speedster (Sold and sorely missed)
3.2 Manual Cayenne (Sold)
73 2.4S (Gone to Singapore)
75 3.0l 914 (Sold)
