1969 912 LWB

Post by Hebster52 »

First week in November I traded my Pre-A replica seen in the replica section here for this 912 -69 project..

It had some rear end damage from the shipping to Europe.

Started with working on the rear corners just to see if they were salvagable instead of replacing. Seems to be possible to save original metal...

21st November I got a package with free used taillighthousings. These will help me finish the corners to correct shape. Pretty happy with the rough work so far too.. :)

Two weeks ago rolled out on to cut out the bent rear framehead.

And after this I started reshaping the right rear corner too.

.

After following your 356 Coupe replica build & been mightily impressed with the skills & effort you put into that, I'm sure this is going to be an unmissable thread ...

Great work. Intrigued to know how you worked those corners into shape as I can’t see any spot weld marks from a puller. Was it purely heat and worked from behind?

Looking forward to the thread

Ah! Should have realised you’d already be on DDK when I posted on Facebook. Welcome again with a new car

Haha, yes. Been lurking into the 911/12 world for a while already besides the former 356 replica project.

And thanks for the help on FB,

Last night I started to work on first new parts I'll see how they fit when I get the crossmember fitted to the frame soon. :)

Looks good.
I’ve brightened up one of the photos I posted on Facebook so you can see the layers better on a new OE quarter.
The bit that goes to the rear crossmember (that you’ve made) is spot welded to the outer quarter down the inside edge.

To be honest though by the time it’s all leaded and has the rear panel/overiders fitted you’ll never see it so making it in one piece is probably easier!

Rolled it out a few days ago to cut out the 912 enginemounts. Decided to test the newly arrived RS rearbumper At the same time, and test the mockup cardboard flare.. :D
