Mellow yellow!

Hi all, I was recommended to this forum from my usual haunt 911uk.com.

I’ve got a project landed of a quite tidy and well restored 914/4.

We have been asked to carry out some modifications to it in a bid to improve it where possible.

I have already established there is a upgraded brake master cylinder taking the inside bore upto 23mm which I’m looking into.

I’m interested to hear what other mods people have carried out on there. 914s and how much difference it made?

I’m not intending to modify the engine at all, apparently it was a 1700cc but has been bored to 2000cc already.
The engine does have an oil leak which we need to look into ?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Lee.

Looks great.

I would not recommend the 23mm conversion unless you have 4 pot brakes. You may get some benefit from a period 911 master cylinder upgrade to 19mm perhaps 21mm but that is prob too far with std brakes

Excellent colour for a 914! With regards to upgrades, 911 front struts and a five-stud conversion are popular. This enables brake upgrades including early 911 callipers but also light weight Brembo's as fitted to 1980's Alfa's. You should be able to upgrade the tie rods to 930 turbo, I think this can improve the steering feel. There are varying opinions regarding front and rear roll bars -best to research on 914World. A replacement firewall bushing from Tangerine racing can reduce sloppy gear changes, and if within budget then the Rennshift gear shifter can make a big difference. Be sure to take a look at the international eBay sites and forums for parts, plenty of bargains if you're quick!

All the best,
Steven
